Sundance Film Festival havde sin andel af store aftaler i år, lige fra den rekordstore pris på 17.500.000,69 dollars, som Neon og Hulu betalte for Palm Springs, til et par aftaler på 12 millioner dollars for The Night House (Searchlight) og Uncle Frank (Amazon).
Medens krudtet stadig lagde sig, uddelte 2020-festen sine årlige priser lørdag aften ved en ceremoni i Basin Fieldhouse i Park City, hvor det også blev afsløret, at Tabitha Jackson er blevet udnævnt til ny direktør som efterfølger for den pensionerede John Cooper.
Lee Isaac Chungs Minari var den store vinder i aften og tog både juryens store pris og publikumsprisen i den amerikanske dramatiske konkurrence. Dramaet er baseret på Chungs virkelige liv og følger en koreansk-amerikansk familie, der flytter fra L.A. til Arkansas for at jagte den amerikanske drøm.
Andre film, der har formået at tage de to øverste priser ved festivalen for nylig, er bl.a. Birth of a Nation i 2017 og Me and Earl and the Dying Girl i 2015.
Heidi Ewings I Carry You With Me, NEXT-sektionens publikumsvinder, vandt også to priser i aften.
Crip Camp, Netflix-dokumentaren, der er executive produceret af Barack og Michelle Obama, vandt publikumsprisen i den amerikanske dokumentarsektion, mens Identifying Features (Sin Senas Particulares), der er instrueret af Fernanda Valadez, tog publikumsprisen i World Cinema Dramatic-sektionen.
Forrige års prisuddeling uddelte priser til flere film, der gik videre til biograferne og endda til prisuddelingssæsonen, med Chinonye Chukwus Clemency, Brittany Runs a Marathon, One Child Nation og Honeyland blandt de største vindere.
